Clyda fail final nonexam with Eire Og

COUNTY NON-EXAM MINOR FINAL (12-A-SIDE): Eire Og 3-10 Clyda Rovers 1-11

Thursday July 02 2009

EIRE Og took the Cork Minor Football Non-Exam League title at Donoughmore with five points to spare over Clyda Rovers. It was an excellent game with both sides working the ball at speed out of defence.

The 12-a-side allowed for extra space and more running. The lead changed hands on a number of occasions.

Kevin Hallissey had the winner's first goal in the 8th minute. Conor Flanagan with a pointed free had the sides level 0-5 to 1-2 after 15 minutes. They were also level at 0-7 to 1-4 with Hallissey having a late goal from a penalty for Eire Og. In injury time Cian O'Sullivan goaled for Clyda and they were deadlocked at the break 2-4 to 1-7

The second half was very tight. Both defences did well. They were level at 2-5 to 1-8, 2-6 to 1-9 and at 2-7 to 1-10 with 10 minutes remaining. Clyda took the lead through Conor O'Sullivan in the 53rd minute but it was Eire Og who finished very well adding a further goal and three points the goal by Michael O'Shea in the dying moments to emerge close victors.
