Knocknagree unbeaten run halted by Rockchapel

DUCON CUP Rockchapel 0-14 Knocknagree 0-8

Thursday March 11 2010

ROCKCHAPEL marched to an impressive six point victory over previously unbeaten Knocknagree in the Ducon Cup played at Knocknagree on Friday night.

Superior movement going forward and a higher work ethic delivered Rockchapel the pair of league points on offer. Knocknagree operated to a greater fluency early on but once a strong Rockchapel defence settled, they proceeded to take the sting out of the home challenge.

Setting out their stall from the outset, Knocknagree signed in on a positive note where Kealan Buckley, Diarmuid Goulding, Barra Buckley and Danny Cooper began to create inroads.

The impressive Fintan O'Connor began the scoring with further points added by James Dennehy and Cooper.

Threatened to be overwhelmed by the Knocknagree onslaught, Rockchapel discovered their own rhythm, the cause boosted by a timely block from custodian Tomás Twomey on denying Dennehy a goaling opportunity.

Rockchapel wrestled control and points to Liam Collins and Ian Guiney pushed the visitors ahead 0-6 to 0-4 ahead at the break. Again, Knocknagree restarted on a positive note, a Jerry Carroll point narrowing the deficit to the minimum.

However, it proved a false dawn for Rockchapel regained the initiative thanks to the compelling play of the O'Callaghans, Batt Curtin and Mike Doody. Upfront, Hickey, Collins and Guiney remained a threat on shooting well taken points.

Applying the bulk of the pressure, Rockchapel's workrate never dropped and it allowed a comfortable cushion at the finishing

line.
