Late Clyda rally sees them into non-exam minor final

Thursday June 25 2009

THIS county MFL 12-aside non-exam semi-final at Mourneabbey on Tuesday was very evenly contested up to the 50th minute. It was a high scoring encounter with both sides full of running and some excellent scores being taken.

Clyda Rovers had an early goal by Cian O'Sullivan and held a slight lead all through the half. Nick's with late points by Dan Wallace and Dan Callanan came within the minimum after 28 minutes. Cian O'Sullivan pointed a free for the home side on the stroke of half time that gave his side an interval lead 1-6 to 0-7.

Conor O'Sullivan with a point on the resumption put Clyda a goal clear. They were further exchanges of points midway through this half, with the home-side holding a three points cushion 1-11 to 0-11. Nick's forced parity when Dan Wallace goaled and when Daniel Callanan found the net in the 49th minute the City side were 2-11 to 1-11 ahead.

Amazingly the City side lost their way from here and it was Clyda who put in a tremendous last 10 minutes. They had four points on the trot to take the lead and goals in the dying moments by Conor O'Sullivan and Sean O'Connell led to Clyda Rovers running out winners by a seven point margin that did not do justice to the effort of the St Nick's side. Clyda now n through to meet Eire Og in the final.
