Liscarroll surge to see off Mitchelstown

DIVISION 2 FL Liscarroll 1-9 Mitchelstown 0-7

Thursday March 11 2010

LISCARROLL claimed the points at stake against Mitchelstown in the Cavanagh's Fermoy Division 2 FL at Mitchelstown on Saturday last. Despite Mitchelstown taking an early lead through Joe O'Brien it was Liscarroll that were to enjoy most of the possession during the opening stages and when Patrick Barrett got through to score the only goal of the game, in the 12th minute it helped move them into a 1-3 to 0-1 lead by the end of the first period.

As the half progressed Mitchelstown began to settle. Joe O'Brien had a point from a free before a good movement started back in defence by David Norris led to Keith McGrath placing Joe O'Brien to score from a very difficult angle to leave a goal between the sides 1-3 to 0-3.

Mitchelstown showed good battling qualities from here to the interval with Eddie Walsh, Keith McGrath, Joe O'Brien and Patrick Hanley all finishing well and they added a point each from Greg Carroll and Patrick Hanley before the interval to leave just the narrowest of margins separating the teams at the shortwhistle.

For the second half the home side were quick to level matters when Joe O'Brien had an early point from a free.

However it was Liscarroll that were to shade matters all through this half with Timothy Egan, Sean Healy, Seamus Sheehan, Stephen Keane, Patrick Barrett, Sean Murphy and Damian O'Brien all very effective and they were to outscore Mitchelstown by six points to one for the remainder of the game to emerge winners.
