Mitchelstown off to a winning start in league
Thursday March 04 2010
A WELL balanced Mitchelstown side proved too crafty for Ballyhooly in the Cavanagh's Fermoy Division one FL at Ballyhooly on Sunday.
The winners dominated from the throw in getting on top in vital sectors of the field and were 0-4 to 0-1 in front before two goals in a five minute spell by Padraigh Donegan and Shane Beston saw them move nine points clear by the 24th minute.
Ballyhooly now faced an uphill battle but were to stage a mini revival before the break that led to Eamon Hanrahan having a late score to reduce the deficit to 2-4 to 0-2 at the shortwhistle.
On the changeover scorers were at premium with both sides kicking a number of bad wides. There was an exchange of two points each by the 43rd minute through Dave Dineen, Dave Moher, Joe Dowling and Michael Whelan 2-6 to 0-4. However, it was the Mitchelstown outfit who continued to set the tone and tagged on two points from here to the end through Eoin Burke and Dave Dineen to run out convincing winners..
