O'flynn praises collective Charleville effort

COLM O'flynn's commanding play at centre back did much to keep Charleville on track in the face of Fullen Gaels determined bid to make the running when favoured by a strong breeze in the first half.

But O'flynn was quick to play down the significance of his own contribution, stating that all the backs stood up well, and that the accuracy of the forwards was instrumental in laying the foundations for victory before half-time.

"It took a huge team effort to get us through, and, while we won easily enough in the end, it was a tough game, and I thought Fullen Gaels didn't deserve to be so far behind at the finish. We had great support today, and we are delighted to have got the job done for the people in the town.

"They drove us on after we struggled to get a grip on the game during the first 20 minutes, and the fact that they made the long trip to Walsh Park at their own expense is something we fully appreciate.

Insisting that Charleville had to dig deep to get the upper-hand, O'flynn suggested the test from Fullen Gaels will stand to the team ahead of the All-ireland final.

"We have a couple of weeks to prepare for that, and I can assure you we will be ready to give it our best shot, and hopefully we will be able to deliver the goods in Croke Park."

A student based in France, O'flynn said he returns to train with the squad a week before every game. "I suppose it isn't an ideal situation, but I'm not complaining, and the management have devised a training programme for me when I'm away which has been a big help," he revealed.
