Second half goals seals dramatic comeback for Freemount
FREEMOUNT rallied impressively to emerge best from Millstreet in the County Junior B Football League Play-off in Milllstreet on Friday night.
Clinical finishing rewarded with four goals served to overturn a six point deficit at the break and give Freemount the upperhand before weathering a late Millstreet onslaught.
Millstreet had dominated the opening half and well worked moves yielded a flurry of points from Robert Kelleher, Darren Sheehan and David Mccaul. And Freemount were thankful to custodian Seán Dunstan on producing a series of brilliant saves to keep the deficit 08 to 0-2 at the break.
Freemount's response was all together the more constructive after the break on rattling into the home side with a courageous mix of flair and power. Shining facets in Freemount's game were Mike Curtin, Paddy Hassett, Ger Hayes and Pat Quaid.
Indeed Freemount spreadeagled the Milllstreet defence on a hat trick of goals netted by Quaid and another from Johnathan Jordan. That scoring blitz pushed Freemount into a commanding position. Millstreet mounted a late offensive and received a flicker of hope from three points to Kelleher and Finbarr Corcoran.
However time ran out and a Freemount bolstered by a tremendous defence held on grimly for a win.
