Under 21 football championships continue to produce exciting fare

LAST week there were three under 21 'B' Football Championship games decided in Muskerry and they all produced exciting fare. The coming week will see further action at that age level with two games down for decision at under 21 'A' level and one in the under 21 'C' Championship. Those three games should again provide entertaining fare for patrons as we look forward to another exciting weekend of action on the playing fields of Muskerry.

At Coachford on Saturday afternoon Inniscarra and Kilmurry will be in action in the Under 21 'A' Football championship and this encounter looks wide open. Inniscarra were impressive winners of the under 21 'B' championship last season and a number of the victorious team will be available for Saturday's challenge.

While Kilmurry at present have a good panel of under 21 footballers. The latter will unfortunately be without the services of one their leading performers Liam Long who recently suffered a leg injury in the Muskerry cup. Hopefully Liam will not be out of action for too long and we take this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery to full fitness.

Returning to Saturdays game a good competitive game appears to be in the offing and it could go either way. Coachford is the venue for the game and it will commence at 2.30. There is a game in the Under 21 'C' Football championship also down for decision on Saturday and this game between Béal Athan Gaortaigh and Clondrohid.

The 21 'C' championship is 13-a-side to enable the clubs from smaller areas to participate and it always produces exciting fare. Béal Athan Gaortaigh appears to be the stronger side and they get the vote to advance.

The Macroom Motors Under 21 Football Championship game that is likely to attract the most interest over the weekend is the encounter in the 'A' championship between Ballincollig and Macroom. This game will take place at Cloughduv on Sunday at 5pm as the later starting time enables GAA enthusiasts to attend the Senior Hurling National League game in Páirc Ui Chaoimh between Cork and Kilkenny in the afternoon.

A good attendance is likely at Cloughduv between two clubs who have very much dominated the under 21 football championship in Muskerry and there is significant interest in the game. Ballincollig the holders who gained a historic county title success in 2009 will have a number of that victorious team at their disposal so they will be the favoured side.

They will underestimate Macroom at their peril however as the latter have enough good footballers at their disposal to make a bold bid for victory and a very good hours football is anticipated at Cloughduv.

Ballincollig will be looking to players like Liam Jennings, John Paul Murphy, Timmy O'Leary, Kealan Hickey; Kieran O'Driscoll, Ian Coughlan and Conor Sexton to be to the forefront of their quest for victory.

While Cork under 21 player Rory Buckley will be a leading performer for Macroom and others who should figure prominently for them are Tony Dineen; Conor O'Sullivan; Brendan Lynch; Games O'Connor and Andrew Hegarty.
