Allen stars at Clonmel
Thursday February 25 2010
COLL'S Corner brilliantly ridden by Kilworth jockey John Allen, was a game and impressive 21/2 lengths winner, of the Lisronagh novice handicap chase, at Clonmel races on Thursday last. Allen, one of the countries best and most underused talented lightweights, made virtually all the running, getting his mount to jump with fluency, where he presented his mount with precision timing at each fence.
Colls Corner tended to jump to his left throughout, and made his only mistake two out, but Allen showed his outstanding horsemanship here, And recovering well, quickly righted his mount, and challenged at the last, with a brilliant leap, which sealed the issue, staying on under a powerful drive from the saddle, to win going away. This was Allen's 80th win in a glorious career.
The winner, which was most unlucky at Fairyhouse the previous week, where he was heavily supported only to unseat Robert Jones, is owned and trained by well known popular Fermoy auctioneer Michael Trixie Barry, who reflected: "He deserved that, and did it well John Allen was outstanding on him, he gave him a super ride, their is a race back here again at clonmel on Sunday week and we will go for that."
