Kilbrin's King consolidates lead for top jockey at Newmarket

WARM sunshine added to the positive and cheerful mood at the Newmarket Horse and Pony Races last Sunday.

With Ballybunion unable to locate a suitable venue, the surperb Drominarigle venue stepped in under the guidance of Gerry Daly and organisers. And those in attendance weren't disappointed with a feast of excellent racing.

Promising young Kilbrin jockey Conor King continues to clock up the winners and a double in Newmarket enhances his position to land the leading jockeys title at the season's end.

"With only a few meetings to go and barring injury, Conor is in pole position in what has been a terrific season for him", said Mr. Daly.

The ever consistent Maniac landed a mammoth 148th career win under the handlinf of young King to land the 12.2 pony race.

Doubles were very much the order of the meeting with Dundalk jockey Shane Gray reaping the benefits of another productive outing to Newmarket. Elsewhere, Lombardstown based Eoin O'Sullivan and Shane Fitzgerald from Buttevant landed doubles.

Glantane's Jack Lenihan rode out impressively aboard Cookie Doe to land the first division of the maiden. The feature derby was shared by Where's Nelly and Harley Dunne.

Shane Gray, a firm favourite on the Newmarket track teamed up with West Cork's champion, Che Guevara, to give Castle Racing from Dunmanway much to cheer about and repeat a win from last month.

The full programme was completed in good time and the firm grass track at Drominarigle met with an overwhelming response.

"It was a great opportunity for the North Cork public to see the rising stars and future champion jockeys in action", said Race organiser Gerry Daly.
