McLernon wins at Uttoxeter

Thursday February 25 2010

CHURCHTOWN, Mallow jockey Richard McLernon, was seen at his very best at Uttoxeter races on Saturday on Mohayer, the well supported 7/1 to 7/2f, in the class 3 2ml handicap hurdle, for his retaining stable of John Joe O'Neill.

He was confidence personified on the winner, which he held up at the rear, making smooth progress on the favoured inside rail. Three from home, he switched right and stumbled in the terrible conditions approaching two out, but was quickly righted by his talented partner, who produced him spot on to lead near the line for a stunning success.

This was Richard's 17th win of the season in England, where he has been making such an outstanding success, of his young racing career.

His performance drew lavish praise, from O'Neill's representative Guy Upton, who enthused: "That was a super ride, the plan was to wait as long as possible with him, as he went too soon the last time. Richard executed the plan to perfection."
