NEWMARKET Races avails of a free date to stage its third meeting of the year that's sure to attract horse and pony enthusiasts and a bumper entry on Sunday.

With the scheduled Ballybunion meeting cancelled, Newmarket steps in and a large attendance is sure to flock to the picturesque Drominarigle venue.

The races were revived two summers ago for the first time in 25 years confirming Newmarket in common with the renowned Duhallow Region has maintained an interest with horses over the years.

And given the success of its May and July stagings, another exciting programme is promised on Sunday.

Race co-ordinator Jerry Daly is looking forward to the staging in a mixed itinerary catering for all interests on a track winning rave reviews with a 1pm start.

"Horse and pony racing is the training ground for all future jockeys on the racetracks of Ireland," he said.

The upward swing in Horse and Pony Racing is confirmed with Cork jockeys Paul Townsend and Adrian Heskin leading the way.

In the two years since Newmarket races were revived after a long lapse, a number of winning jockeys have graduated successfully to the race track.

These include Eddie Linehan from Glantane, Gavin Sheehan from Dunmanway, Ray Dawson from Kildare, Bryan Cooper from Tralee and Aine O'Connor from Limerick.

"Come to the races and watch the rising stars of the turf in action. A good opportunity will be afforded to make the last of the summer expenses from the bookies as well," said Mr Daly.
