JUNIOR A HC SEMI-FINAL Kilbrin 2-19 Millstreet 0-11 KILBRIN made short work of a struggling Millstreet in this semi-final played in Kanturk last Friday.
There was seldom a doubt about the outcome and though never hitting top gear, Kibrin imposed their authority on the proceedings from an early stage. A depleted Millstreet did enjoy spells of possession yet failed to make it count and passed up a stack of scoring chances.
Kilbrin won because they made less errors from their slicker stickwork and a competent enough overall display secures a return to the divisional showpiece for the second consecutive season.
Midfielder William Egan got Kilbrin off to a flyer of a start, pointing directly from the throw in. Millstreet offered flashes of potential yet deliveries were short into the waiting presence of Kilbrin 'keeper Paudie O'Callaghan and full forward Tadgh Collins was narrowly wide of a goal chance.
Kilbrin performed with greater verve, their class underlined by the efforts of Con Carroll, Tom Brennan, Neilius O'Reilly, David O'Sullivan and Egan. Upfront Liam Daly and Thomas O'Reilly found the target before Carroll initiated a move for Daniel O'Sullivan to net.
Millstreet waited to the 15th min to open their account from a Joe Lynch white flag. Still, Kilbrin controlled matters , Eoin Sheahan, Daly and Egan finding the range. Matters improved for Millstreet, Jamie Kelleher, substitute Brendan Quirke and Mark Ellis pointing to cut the arrears 1-12 to 0-4 at the break.
As Kilbrin dropped the tempo, Millstreet shaded the outcome during the third quarter through the rallying efforts of Ellis, David McCaul, Donough McCarthy and Quirke. Still Millstreet trailed by nine points and a man down after Patrick Randles picked up a double yellow. And any notions about a glimmer of a comeback evaporated on Kilbrin captain Daniel O'Sullivan sauntering clear to deliver a sweet goal.
