Cloughduv hoping for league/championship double in Junior B Hurling League Final

Thursday February 25 2010

THE playing fields of Muskerry will be fairly busy this weekend with the Under 21 Football Championship and Junior Football Leagues commencing and the Junior (B) Hurling League Final which is outstanding from 2009 is also down for decision.

Cloughduv will have home advantage in that Junior (B) Hurling League Final and they will be hoping to make it a League/Championship double when they face Ballincollig.

The home side captured last season's Junior (B) Hurling Championship in convincing fashion and they will be fancied to overcome the Ballincollig challenge, even though the latter will benefit from their recent semi-final outing against Blarney when they secured a well merited victory.

The Under 21 (B) Fotball Championship will also commence on Saturday and Annahala is the venue for this encounter between Ballinora and Cill Na Marta and the latter are slightly fancied to advance.

There are three Junior Football league games down for decision on Sunday and they are all attractive fixtures. At Annahala, at noon, Kilmichael will face Kilmurry and the former will be hoping to improve on their Muskerry Cup performance when they were well beaten by Sunday's opponents.

Kilmurry performed poorly last week however when they gave best to Iveleary in the Muskerry Cup Final. Kilmurry will consequently be anxious to get back to their winning ways so Sunday's game is sure to be competitive.

There are two League games arranged for Sunday afternoon and in one of those, last year's Championship winners, Blarney will be in action. They will travel to Donoughmore to play the home side and the 2009 Divisional champions could find it hard to commence their football season on a winning note.

Donoughmore will have the advantage of having played two games in the current year's Muskerry Cup so their early season football activity could give them the advantage in Sunday's first round League game.

The form team of the moment Iveleary, who were crowned Muskerry Cup winners on Sunday last will also be in action on Sunday afternoon next and they will have home advantage when they face Dripsey.

The latter will be hoping for an early season boost to their football stock but they could find the going hard at Inchigeelagh. This game could prove to be the best of the weekend fixtures and a good attendance is likely at Inchigeelagh.

There is one game arranged for Monday next at Cloughduv under lights at 8.30. Clondrohid and Inniscarra will be in action in same and it could go either way.
