Analysis: The problems within the Limerick camp echo the trouble that Cork faced in their league campaign in 2009. With only a skeleton of a team it is hard to see Limerick competing and may very well suffer some cruel defeats at the hands of top opposition. They will be doing well to hold their Division 1 status , and that no doubt is the aim being set out by Justin McCarthy.

Suffered a disastous defeat at the hands of Carlow in a recent challenge game, and if this is anything to go by then they look set to be demolished.

In Nicky Quaid they have one of the brightest young hurlers in the country, but carrying a team on his young shoulders is an impossible task, just as Limerick's battle against relegation appears to be.

Relegation seems to be their fate.

Justin McCarthy's time on Shannonside would seem to be drawing to a close. He'll probably get one or two games in this year's leage to prove himself and his new look team, like Gerald McCarthy was last year, but like his Cork counterpart if things start badly for him and Limerick are pointless after the first couple of rounds it's likely that the board will turn against him.

Verdict: With only a carcass of a team, relegation looks certain.
