Walsh to try Twin Towers
Thursday February 18 2010
CORK boss Denis Walsh looks set to hand Micheál Cussen his National Hurling League debut. The former Cork football star starred for the Rebels in a challenge game against Waterford last weekend.
The big Glanmire man made a massive impression scoring 2-1. Cussen seems certain to team up with former AFL star Aisake Ó hÁilpín in the full-forward line in a "twin towers" formaton – mirroring the strategy employed by the Kerry footballers with Tommy Walsh and Kieran Donaghy in recent seasons.
The Cork boss has said he will give all of his panel game time during this year's league, but emphasised that winning games is his main priority.
"We will be looking to win every game in the league, because it's all about building up a bit of confidence at this juncture, and there's no better way of doing that than by winning matches.
"We're in good form after last week-end's challenge against Waterford when we gave most fellas a run, and I believe the potential is there to challenge for honours this year. It's important that we get a bit of momentum going in the league, but the way the competition is structured now you could find yourself in trouble if you lose a couple of games early on.
"Hopefully, that won't happen, and if we get any sort of a decent start, I think we will be there or thereabouts.
"There is no shortage of players with experience and leadership qualities in the team, and there is a fair bit of youth there as well now.
"When you add all those things together, it leaves you with a fairly strong hand," the Cork boss told
