THE popular Banteer Gymkhana promises to attract huge entries on a staging on Sunday next. A mixed array of pony and show jumping events will dominate proceedings from early morning to dusk. Quality field entered for Charleville three-stage cycle race
THE 10th annual Charleville Park Hotel and Leisure Centre two-day, three-stage cycle race takes place in Charleville over this weekend, September 4 and 5. Widely regarded as the biggest two-day event in the cycling calendar in the south of Ireland the past winners include Stephen Halpin of McNally Swords, Dublin, in 2006. He is presently riding with the Sean Kelly An Post professional team for the rest of this year and intends turning professional in 2011.

Six wins out of six for Herlihy
THE sixth and penultimate road race in the Ballyhoura Active Summer Series of events took place on Friday night in conjunction with the Kilteely and Dromkeen Community Festival. Conditions were ideal for running with a cool and clear evening greeting the 70 or so runners from Cork, Limerick and Tipperary as they prepared to tackle the scenic if undulating route from outside the An Teach Community Centre in Cloverfield.

Handballers will expect nothing soft in All-Ireland semi-finals
THE Handball All-Ireland 60x30 Softball Championship semi-finals commence this weekend with the first series of games down for decision, and the remainder of the semifinal programme down for decision the following weekend. Cork's interest in this weekend's semi-finals will centre on the Hospital venue on Sunday where three games are down for decision with Cork involvement in the first two semi-finals.
Liscarroll Open Sports attracts impressive entry
THE endeavours of Liscarroll Athletic Club earned a positive feedback on the staging of their highly successful Open Sports on the grounds of the local GAA pitch. Competing clubs from across and outside the province joined athletes from foreign shores to compete in a diverse programme organized with precision by the hosts.
Herlihy leads them home in first Galtee Runners road race event
GALTEE Runners AC had a very large turnout of 220 people for their first time organising a road race in their home town of Mitchelstown. This indeed can be seen to be a great success as the club have only been in existence for little over a year and they were competing for numbers against a number of other established races during the week.
Juvenile events reaching climax
OUR Mallow Credit Union sponsored juvenile continue their quest for provincial Juvenile honour when they face a combination of Kerry, Clare and Tipperary opposition in the Munster 60x30 juvenile finals in Broadford on Saturday at 12 noon and on Tuesday evening at the same venue at 7pm. At the time of writing there is still four semi-finals to be played which involve Cork players and the extent of our challenge when obviously depend on the results of those game.
Mitchelstown host inaugural 'Gr8km' road race
Tony Flynn and Steven Ryan from Awbeg Valley AC, Doneraile, pictured at the Rising Sun Open Sports Day THIS coming Friday night sees the inaugural 'GR8km' road race taking place in Mitchelstown. Hosted by the newly-formed Galtee Runners AC, the race starts at 8pm and it also serves as the fifth event in the Ballyhoura Active Summer Series which commenced back in April and concludes in Liscarroll on Friday September 3.
