Tough tests for juvenile handballers
Thursday March 04 2010
vein of form on Sunday, his Tipperary opponent is reported to be promising so there will not be much in it.
In the second final of the day which is U13S Kilworth player Jamie Kenneally will be hoping to do well against Clare Brian Fahy. Again, Jamie has been one of the very promising young players in the county and a win here on Sunday would further boost his confidence.
Next up will be Boys U13D with Kilworth player Aidan O'Brien teaming up with Boherbue player Shane Flynn to face Clare Fergal Coughlan and Jamie Keane. Both Aidan and Shane look to have a very promising future but they will certainly be tested here as the Clare pairing are also very useful.
Next down for decision will be Boys U14D in which Kilworth player Brian Sheehan will team up with Ballydesmond's Aidan Kerins to face Tipperary Pauric O'Donoghue and Jonathon Walsh, Aidan and Brian will certainly have to up the ante to overcome the very promising O'Donoghue and Walsh but they are capable of doing it and a good showing on the day could see them winning it.
Girls U14D are next on the programme and here Brid Horgan, Kilworth and Mairead Brosnan,Ballydesmond team up to face Clare's Amy Philpott and Kate O Gorman. The Cork girls have improved a lot and are playing well if they can continue that improvement on Sunday I think they have a great chance of winning it.
The last game on the Kilworth programme is U15S in which Limerick's Padraig Quish will play Clare Mark Peuter with the Limerick player fancied to win this one.
Moving down the road to Fermoy on Sunday there is a programme of seven finals down for decision with Cork players involved in all seven. Play will open with U12D in which the Mallow pair David Walsh/Gearoid O'Connell face Tipperary Kevin Shinnors/Gerome Cahill and we will be hoping for a Cork win here. The second game will be in Girls U14S in which Mallow's Sophie Carroll plays Emer Lynch, Kerry.
In Boys U14S Fermoy player Kurt Bowes will play Colin Corbett in what promises to me a a cracking contest, Kurt is a much improved player this year and a win here would greatly boost his confidence. In Boys U15D the Liscarroll pair Daniel Relihan and Michael Hedigan play Clare pair Paul Gleeson/Mark Lynch and again we will be hoping for a big showing from the Cork pair, they wont have it easy but if they can step up a gear they should advance.
The Boys U16S Final also promises to be a cracker with Liscarroll's Denis O'Neill facing Clare Colin Crehan with very little between the players in this one. U16D will also be a hard one to win with Mallow pair Patrick Herlihy and Darren Whelan facing a strong Clare partnership in Barry Nash and Niall Botlon its one that could go either way, lets hope it tilts in Cork's favour.
Under 17D will complete the Fermoy programme with Colm Kearney, Ballydesmond and Ciaran Buckley,Mallow again facing Clare Darren Cooney and Kevin O'Callaghan not an easy one to call but I expect a big showing from Colm and Ciaran.
Conna, which also commences at 11am, has three finals but no Cork involvement here with Girls U13D Waterford v Clare, Girls U13S Waterford v Tipperary and Boys U17S Waterford v Tipperary.
