PARK UTD A picked up three valuable league points by easily accounting for opponents Glenthorn at Brigown Park on Saturday last. Unlike the previous week against Blarney St Ath, Park took their chances when they came their way and indeed took a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes.
The first goal came on five minutes when midfielder Dave Dineen played striker Ger O'Neill through. He made no mistake and fired Park into the lead. Five minutes later it was 2-0 after a darting run by Gary O'Connor saw him swing in a teasing cross that skimmed off a defender's head and fell nicely to Eamon O'Sullivan who beat the keeper with a low angled drive.
Park were rampant at this stage and only a great save by the visiting keeper on 25 minutes from a Tristan Quirke thunderbolt kept the scores at 2-0. With 35 minutes gone Glenthorn were back in it when a quickly-taken free kick found a glenthorn midfielder. He cut inside and curled a good effort into the top right hand corner, giving Ian Fitzgibbon in Park's goal no chance.
The second half started for Park exactly as the first as inside the first 10 minutes they had again scored twice.
The first came with seven minutess gone when Jamie Finn played Ger O'Neill through and when his low cross was spilled by the keeper O'Sullivan was on hand to restore Park's two goal cushion.
Minutes later came the goal of the game — a sweeping move down the right saw Eugene O'Callaghan swing in an inviting cross for Swalek Zachnic who rose above two defenders and powerfully headed back across goal and into the top corner.
At 4-1 the Park management made a few changes and with 20 minutes gone in the second half Park went 5-1 up. O'Neill was fouled on the edge of the box and when Eamon O'Sullivan curled the free into the bottom right corner he also completed his hat-trick.
With 10 minutes to go Park conceded a penalty from which Glenthorn made it 5-2 and with minutes to go another lapse in concentration allowed Glenthorn in for a late consolation but it finished at 5-3.
