Donoughmore made to work hard for first win of season

Thursday September 02 2010

DONOUGHMORE recorded their first win of the season in the Regional Park Ballincollig on Sunday morning last with a hard fought but well deserved victory.

Donoughmore needed to bounce back after last week's defeat and they did so in some style. Donoughmore controlled this game from the start and they took the lead in the 20th minute when Pat Foley played an excellent ball down the line for Jimmy O'Connell to chase and O'Connell whipped in a great first time low cross to the back post where Aidan O'Shea slid in to finish well. Sean O'Mahony doubled the lead 5 minutes later when he looped a great header over the Glenvale keeper from 12 yards.

Donoughmore were passing the ball well at this stage and had the Glenvale defense at sixes and sevens. O'Mahony made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute when he finished from close range after more good work down the right by O'Connell. Glenvale were awarded a soft penalty in the 38th minute which was converted and the score was 3-1 at the break.

The second half was a stop start affair with a lot of niggle coming into the game and this made it very difficult to get any rhythm going. Donoughmore looked comfortable for long periods during this half and should have added to their tally. Aidan O'shea had a great chance mid way through when, after an excellent passing move involving Damien Hennessy and Ken Cullinane, O'Shea raced through on goal but put his well hit effort just wide.

Glenvale pulled another goal back in the 75th minute after a through ball split Donoughmores defense down the middle. Jonathan Hennessy, O'Connell and O'Mahony had further half chances but Donoughmore could not add to their tally.
