Macroom and Lakewood enjoy positive weekend

Macroom 5 Nufarm 1

Thursday February 18 2010

MACROOM ran out comfortable winners at home against Nufarm in the Under 12 schoolboys League. Robert Healy open the scoring after 15 minutes with a cool finish. Marco Healy then got his first on 20 minutes and Macroom were dominant. Robert Healy got his second before the break to give Nufarm a mountain to climb.

It is one that they didnt get to see, as Marco then copied his namesake to get his second to kill off any hope Nufarm had. Nufarm did pull a goal back midway through the second half, but Marco Healy deservedly got his hatrick and had the final say.

An excellent team performance with best for Macroom Blake O'Gorman, Paul Farrell, Tim Hinchion and Cathal O'Riordan.

MACROOM: David Kelleher, Blake O'Gorman, Craig Ronan, Tim Hinchion, Cathal O'Riordan, Robert Healy, Kevin O'Dwyer, Paul Farrell, Don Creedon, Marco Healy, Alex Ryan. Subs: Jack Kelleher, Ethan O'Gorman

Bandon 0 Lakewood 7

ON a bright, crisp morning for football, Lakewood Utd got back to winning ways with a great performance against Bandon in the Division 1 Under 12 Schooboys League.

Aaron McNamara started the scoring with a great shot from the edge of the box and Daniel Cotter doubled the lead after a great through ball found him on the edge of the box and he coolly finished Patrick Buckley got the first of his brace before half-time. He doubled his tally after the break with a great shot and Brian Verling soon got in the act with another great goal.

Substitute Lorcan Dixon then found the net with a great header and Colm O'Hanlon finished the scoring near the end. Best on the day were Eoin O'Shea Chris Kelly and Daniel Cotter.

Innishvilla 2 Lakewood 4

LAKEWOOD earned a big three points at the superb Jake O'Donoghue Park in the Under 14 Permier division.

Lakewood showed good resilience to come from a goal down to equalise through Greg O'Mahony who tapped in from a Darragh Lucey cross. On the stroke of halftime, Stephen Wallace who was a thorn in the backside of the Innishvilla defence put Lakewood in front with a cross turned shot which crept in at the far post.

Lakewood were in control and then increased their lead with Greg doubling his tally after Darragh slipped him through again. Lakewood put the game beyond doubt with Kevin Casey hitting a great shot on the turn hitting the bottom corner. Innishvilla had a few chances but Mark Dorgan, Cian O'Shea, Phil Desmond and Paul Foley, who made a great clearance off the line, stayed firm until a few minutes before time, but it was only a consolation.

Again Conor Buckley stood out in goal with three superb saves. Others to perform well were Stephen Wallace, Paul Foley and Cian O'Shea.
