MACROOM secured their passage to the fourth round of the AOH Cup by beating a resolute Park United side at the Town Park, Macroom on Sunday morning. Both sides started well and enjoyed good spells of possession.

Macroom could have taken an early lead, only for superb keeping from Shane O'Brien as he scooped the ball clear as Keith Holden was passing him. Another early chance fell to a lively William O'Riordan who, after being played through, ran out of space whilst trying to round the onrushing keeper.

Macroom then had pleas for a penalty when winger Martin Corcoran was bundled over in the box, but the referee waved away any protests. Left back Darrell Holden was seeing plenty of the ball and he kept the scores even by acrobatically clearing off the line after a lobbed effort was heading towards the Macroom net.

The second half saw the introduction of Barry O'Donnell and the home side started to control the midfield better. Macroom took the lead on 65 minutes when Anthony O'Donoughue and Keith Holden played a neat one-two and Holden finished from close range.

Park started to press for the equaliser and, as a result left holes at the back, which O'Donnell and further substitute James O'Connor tried to exploit. Both had chances well saved by O'Brien in the Park goal while, at the other end, Macroom defended well to close out the game with the one goal advantage.
